Public Health Ope­ra­ti­oNs for clI­ma­te aCtion (PHONIC) – Deve­lo­p­ment of a frame­work to iden­ti­fy prio­ri­ty ope­ra­ti­ons

This rese­arch pro­ject aims to assess and prio­ri­ti­ze public health ope­ra­ti­ons addres­sing cli­ma­te chan­ge miti­ga­ti­on and adapt­a­ti­on and ther­eby making them resi­li­ent to cur­rent and future chal­lenges.

This will be done by

  • Con­duc­ting a sco­ping review on exis­ting public health func­tions addres­sing cli­ma­te chan­ge adapt­a­ti­on and miti­ga­ti­on
  • Under­ta­king semi-struc­tu­red inter­views with experts
  • Nomi­na­ting an inter­na­tio­nal expert group, focus­sing on Euro­pe and East Afri­ca, for con­sul­ta­ti­on and detail­ed input at each step of frame­work deve­lo­p­ment
  • Deve­lo­ping an umbrel­la frame­work for the dif­fe­rent are­as of action on cli­ma­te chan­ge miti­ga­ti­on and adapt­a­ti­on in public health ser­vices
  • Iden­ti­fy­ing prio­ri­ty public health func­tions for in-depth ana­ly­sis, and deve­lo­ping a sub-frame­work with tan­gi­ble indi­ca­tors for each of the­se prio­ri­ty ope­ra­ti­ons
  • Iden­ti­fy­ing exis­ting good prac­ti­ce examp­les for the sub-frame­work and publi­shing the good prac­ti­ces in an open access online data­ba­se
  • Pilo­ting the sub-frame­work in Ger­ma­ny and Kenya in col­la­bo­ra­ti­on with pro­ject part­ners
  • Dis­se­mi­na­ting the project’s results to a ran­ge of audi­en­ces via web­i­nars, poli­cy briefs and aca­de­mic artic­les.

The pro­ject is a coope­ra­ti­on bet­ween Lud­wig-Maxi­mi­li­ans-Uni­ver­si­tät Munich, Helm­holtz Zen­trum Mün­chen and CPHP and is fun­ded by the Ger­man Alli­ance for Glo­bal Health Rese­arch (GLOHRA). The dura­ti­on of the pro­ject is set from April 2023 until Sep­tem­ber 2024.
