Advisory support to the GIZ Sector Initiative One Health
The health of humans, animals and their environment is closely linked and interdependent. The One Health approach is based on this understanding and uses interdisciplinary cooperation to protect health and prevent health risks.
The CPHP, together with the London School of Economics (LSE), CPC Analytics und dem UN University International Institute for Global Health, advises the Sector Initiative One Health of the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
The project focuses on three areas: 1) health governance and mainstreaming of One Health, 2) the impact of climate change on health, and 3) financing mechanisms related to pandemic preparedness, One Health and planetary health.
Project goals
Our main objective is to support the GIZ Sector Initiative in its tasks and thereby also contribute to advising the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), facilitating knowledge management and promoting the One Health approach.
Methodology
The CPHP leads the project and supports the One Health Sector Initiative together with a consortium of experts. The consortium prepares and provides information, analyses and strategic assessments on the following topics:
1) Health governance and mainstreaming of One Health
Analysis of global instruments and their integration of animal health, biodiversity, climate change and food systems in the context of international health governance.
2) Impact of climate change on health
Assessments of the health consequences of climate change, particularly in low- and middle-income countries and for particularly vulnerable population groups, and development of strategies to strengthen climate resilience in health policy and health systems.
3) Financing mechanisms
Analysis of existing and new financing instruments relevant to pandemic prevention and preparedness, One Health and Planetary Health – with a particular focus on sustainable and equitable financing solutions.
