Pro­fi­le

Fran­zis­ka Mat­thies-Wies­ler is a rese­arch asso­cia­te at the Cent­re for Pla­ne­ta­ry Health Poli­cy (CPHP) in Ber­lin and works on health-rela­ted heat pro­tec­tion and for the Lan­cet Count­down on Health and Cli­ma­te Chan­ge Poli­cy Brief for Ger­ma­ny. She also con­ducts rese­arch at the Insti­tu­te of Epi­de­mio­lo­gy at Helm­holtz Zen­trum Mün­chen on envi­ron­ment and health (pri­ma­ri­ly on issues of cli­ma­te chan­ge adapt­a­ti­on and extre­me wea­ther events) and on agen­da-set­ting in rese­arch. Pri­or to joi­ning CPHP, she work­ed free­lan­ce in tea­ching, rese­arch, and poli­cy con­sul­ting on envi­ron­ment and health, health in the United Nati­ons Sus­tainable Deve­lo­p­ment Goals (SDGs), and on lin­king glo­bal envi­ron­men­tal chan­ge to health and on the chan­ge to sus­taina­bi­li­ty. Pre­vious­ly, she gai­ned diver­se expe­ri­ence in cli­ma­te chan­ge and health through her work for the WHO Regio­nal Office for Euro­pe, WBGU, and the Tyn­dal Cent­re for Cli­ma­te Chan­ge Rese­arch. Her PhD the­sis focu­sed on medi­cinal plants for the tre­at­ment of mala­ria in Tan­z­a­nia.
