Dr. Olu­mi­de Abim­bo­la

Direc­tor and Foun­der | Afri­ca Poli­cy Rese­arch Insti­tu­te

Dr. Olu­mi­de Abim­bo­la is the foun­der and direc­tor of the Afri­ca Poli­cy Rese­arch Insti­tu­te (APRI). His rese­arch focu­ses on eco­no­mic infor­ma­li­ty, trade poli­cy, regio­nal inte­gra­ti­on, and natu­ral resour­ce manage­ment. He ear­ned his doc­to­ra­te at the Max Planck Insti­tu­te for Eth­no­lo­gi­cal Rese­arch in Halle/Saale.

Befo­re foun­ding APRI, he work­ed at the CONNEX Sup­port Unit and the Afri­can Deve­lo­p­ment Bank, whe­re he con­tri­bu­ted to pro­jects such as the Afri­ca Visa Open­ness Index (AVOI) and the Afri­ca Regio­nal Inte­gra­ti­on Index (ARII). Dr. Olu­mi­de Abim­bo­la has published num­e­rous aca­de­mic, poli­cy, and media con­tri­bu­ti­ons, inclu­ding stu­dies on cli­ma­te jus­ti­ce and finan­cial models for Africa’s com­mo­di­ty pro­jects.

He is curr­ent­ly a mem­ber of the Inter­na­tio­nal Board of the Insti­tu­te for Money, Tech­no­lo­gy and Finan­cial Inclu­si­on (IMTFI) and the Poli­cy Working Group of the Insti­tu­te of Huma­ni­ties in Afri­ca (HUMA) at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Cape Town.
