Climate Change and Health: Parliamentary Dialogue in the New Legislative Term

Climate change is increasingly affecting human health. In addition to the spread of infectious diseases and increasing psychological stress, heat-related illnesses in particular pose a growing challenge to human health and therefore to our healthcare system. At the same time, the healthcare sector contributes to climate change through high resource consumption and emissions. The re-elected and newly elected members of parliament have a great responsibility as well as a large opportunity to strengthen climate and health protection in the new legislative period.

Project aims

Funded by the Wellcome Trust, the CPHP provides a platform for science-based information, active dialogue and open exchange. The aim is to strengthen the commitment of and cooperation between experienced and new members of parliament at the interface of climate change and health. With its events, the CPHP opens up the space for cross-party dialogue and provides impetus for tangible options for action — in Berlin and in one’s own constituency.

Methodology

The CPHP designs and organises a series of events on selected topics at the interface between climate change and health. Both in person and digitally, the events offer scientific input from the CPHP and other selected experts, as well as the opportunity for exchange and networking between members of parliament involved in the climate change and health nexus.
