Prof. Dr. Petra Thür­mann

Vice Pre­si­dent | Rese­arch | Uni­ver­si­ty of Witten/Herdecke

Prof. Dr. med. Petra A. Thür­mann has been Vice Pre­si­dent for Rese­arch at the Uni­ver­si­ty of Witten/Herdecke sin­ce 2021. She also holds the Chair of Cli­ni­cal Phar­ma­co­lo­gy at the Facul­ty of Health (Depart­ment of Human Medi­ci­ne) and is a mem­ber of the board of direc­tors of the Inter­na­tio­nal Cen­ter for Sus­tainable and Just Trans­for­ma­ti­on (tra:ce). Sin­ce 2024, she has also been a mem­ber of the Ger­man Fede­ral Government’s Expert Coun­cil on Health and Resi­li­ence.

She stu­di­ed human medi­ci­ne from 1979 to 1986 at Goe­the Uni­ver­si­ty Frank­furt am Main, whe­re she recei­ved her doc­to­ra­te in 1987 and her habi­li­ta­ti­on in cli­ni­cal phar­ma­co­lo­gy in 1997. 

Her rese­arch and work focus on drug safe­ty and phar­ma­co­vi­gi­lan­ce, drug the­ra­py safe­ty and medi­ca­ti­on errors, ger­ia­tric phar­ma­co­the­ra­py, health ser­vices rese­arch, gen­der dif­fe­ren­ces in phar­ma­co­the­ra­py (gen­der medi­ci­ne), and cli­ni­cal stu­dies on phar­ma­co­ki­ne­tics and phar­ma­co­dy­na­mics. Most recent­ly, she recei­ved the Wil­liam B. Abrams Award in Ger­ia­tric Cli­ni­cal Phar­ma­co­lo­gy in 2021.
