Vice President | Research | University of Witten/Herdecke
Prof. Dr. med. Petra A. Thürmann has been Vice President for Research at the University of Witten/Herdecke since 2021. She also holds the Chair of Clinical Pharmacology at the Faculty of Health (Department of Human Medicine) and is a member of the board of directors of the International Center for Sustainable and Just Transformation (tra:ce). Since 2024, she has also been a member of the German Federal Government’s Expert Council on Health and Resilience.
She studied human medicine from 1979 to 1986 at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, where she received her doctorate in 1987 and her habilitation in clinical pharmacology in 1997.
Her research and work focus on drug safety and pharmacovigilance, drug therapy safety and medication errors, geriatric pharmacotherapy, health services research, gender differences in pharmacotherapy (gender medicine), and clinical studies on pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Most recently, she received the William B. Abrams Award in Geriatric Clinical Pharmacology in 2021.
