Dr. Wolf­gang Straff

Dr. Wolf­gang Straff stu­di­ed medi­ci­ne at RWTH Aachen Uni­ver­si­ty, whe­re he also ear­ned his doc­to­ra­te in envi­ron­men­tal medi­ci­ne with a focus on human bio­mo­ni­to­ring. After working as a resi­dent in the Depart­ment of Der­ma­to­lo­gy and All­er­go­lo­gy at Aachen Uni­ver­si­ty Hos­pi­tal, whe­re he con­duc­ted rese­arch on cyto­ki­ne secre­ti­on by acti­va­ted T‑lymphocytes, he joi­n­ed the Fede­ral Envi­ron­ment Agen­cy in 2003. Sin­ce 2008, he has been head of the “Envi­ron­men­tal Medi­ci­ne and Health Assess­ment” divi­si­on and depu­ty head of the “Envi­ron­men­tal Hygie­ne” depart­ment.

His main are­as of work and rese­arch inte­rests include the iden­ti­fi­ca­ti­on of sus­cep­ti­ble popu­la­ti­on groups, human bio­mo­ni­to­ring in envi­ron­men­tal medi­ci­ne, envi­ron­men­tal hygie­ne, the health effects of fra­gran­ces, envi­ron­men­tal all­er­gies, the effects of par­ti­cu­la­te mat­ter, and issues of risk com­mu­ni­ca­ti­on. He also deals with pla­ne­ta­ry health and the effects of cli­ma­te chan­ge on health.
